Client presented with suspected male pattern hair thinning describing hair loss and a bald patch. Now at age 37 with family history of Dad losing most of his hair on top and Mum also had hair thinning over the scalp which is call diffuse hair loss. He had noticed hair seemed to be getting thinner over the last year and three months which was interesting because pattern hair thinning alone is a very slow progressing hair miniaturization, and not rapid hair loss in such a short time frame.

An otherwise healthy person, there were some past sports injuries and hip fracture, but no surgery or medication was required. Trichologist at Absolique always asks to check your recent or past blood test just to make sure everything is normal for cellular function and healthy hair growth. In blood tests we found low Vitamin D which generally mean low EFA’s (essential fatty acids), both required for normal functioning immune system, healthy hair, skin and nails. We also found high end ferritin which needs to be watched because it can be associated with autoimmune hematomacrosis where your body stores too much iron and can cause other health problems.

Absolique Trichologist microscopic diagnosis uncovered scalp scale and scalp oil also associated with EFA deficiency and low vitamin D. Under the microscope we also found up to 14 hairs per centimetre not growing normally in the terminal area, which is well away from any pattern hair thinning related to hereditary factors and DHT. What this represents is diffuse hair thinning where the hair is not growing at its optimum which can indicate past hair loss or hair thinning due to body imbalances, lows, highs and lowered immunity, as we found in the blood tests. Microscope also found the presence of male pattern hair thinning with vellus hairs and transitional hairs at front, top, recessions and crown, typical pattern.

Various treatment options were provided from step one through to four, always starting with a simple hair washing routine to stabilize the hair cell, hair cycle and scalp along with protecting against further male pattern hair thinning. Taking a simple approach in an otherwise healthy human being can be enough to stop hair thinning whilst addressing underlying causes. For this story my client was looking for some hair regrowth, so we added another topical step to connect to the hair cell and hair cycle at a cellular level for hair regrowth.
