Male and female pattern hair thinning also called androgenetic alopecia, is caused by the following triggers, hereditary factors, hormonal factors, free radical effect, and environmental factors. Male and female pattern hair thinning is a gradual miniaturisation of hair only in the pattern areas and is not physical hair loss as hair falling out which is commonly confused. Male and female pattern hair thinning gradual hair miniaturising is caused by dihydrotestosterone (DHT) triggered to bind to receptors in the pattern hair thinning areas only. DHT is not the problem here, it is the trigger.
When animal protein/products are part of your healthy diet, I encourage you to be mindful and choose high-quality, hormone and antibiotic free. Hormones and antibiotics in the food do contribute to pattern hair thinning. What animals eat dictates their health, and this ultimately travels up the food chain and determines what health benefits, or lack of, you get. Bovine/beef should be grass fed, grain fed is high in pro-inflammatory omega-6 fats and often contains toxic remnants from the hormones and antibiotics used during the industrial production processing. Grass fed and finished beef, on the other hand, contains higher concentrations of essential nutrients and omega-3 fatty acids.
Hormones in Food and Pattern Hair Thinning with Trichologist:
- Bovine/beef should be grass fed
- Chicken/poultry should be hormone free
- Organic eggs
- Wild caught fish and seafood, not farmed
- Lamb and pork should be organic
When chicken/poultry is chosen, it should be labelled hormone free. RSPCA approved and free range does not mean it is hormone free and is misleading. Eggs are similar, free range does not tell you what the chicken ate and if it is hormone free. Organic eggs are the safest option.
Seafood and fish need to labelled wild caught, if this is not clearly stated then it is most likely farmed and will deliver no healthful benefit, but the same detrimental effects of grain fed hormone containing beef. Lamb and pork are not yet clearly labelled so choosing organic is your safest option. Larger Australian supermarkets are now labelling their produce so you can choose the safest options at a reasonable price.
Trichologist at Absolique Hair Health Clinic helps you with your hair loss treatments, hair thinning treatments and scalp concerns. Hormones in your food do have a negative impact on health, endocrine system, digestive system and in turn hair and scalp. Genetically modified organisms (GMO) including gluten also play havoc with our hormones and should be avoided along with dairy unless it is organic and the white sugar that is processed. These days there are so many delicious recipes available for free online, there is no reason why you can’t cook up healthy, safe hormone and GMO free food to assist your overall health and hair.
